Brad Butterworth
Founder & Owner, VMG Race
Four-time winner of the America's Cup and inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2004, Brad Butterworth’s career spans seven Cup campaigns, two Whitbread Round the World Races, 10 Sydney to Hobarts and eight Fastnets. He has claimed victories with Alinghi, won the Admiral’s Cup and Kenwood Cup, and secured multiple World Championships across leading classes.
VMG Race is the culmination of that experience.
Founded and owned by the Butterworth Group, the brand was created to deliver high-performance sailing apparel shaped by decades at the highest level of
the sport. Every product reflects real-world competition — where marginal gains decide outcomes.
Forged from Legacy. Built to Perform.
Heritage & High Performance
VMG Race was built with one focus: performance without compromise.
Rooted in New Zealand’s sailing heritage and driven by elite-level insight, our gear is engineered for precision, durability and unrestricted movement. From inshore racing to offshore campaigns, each garment is designed to withstand salt, spray and sustained pressure.
We refine every seam, fabric and fit with one goal — to optimise speed, comfort and resilience when it matters most.
Our Mission
To equip performance sailors with technical apparel that enhances movement, sharpens focus and withstands the harshest marine environments.
We exist to translate elite racing experience into functional advantage — creating gear that supports those who compete, push limits and demand more from
their equipment.
VMG Race is built for sailors who measure progress in boat lengths, seconds and results.
Sustainability
Performance and responsibility must work together.
At VMG Race, we are committed to reducing environmental impact through considered fabric selection, durable construction and long-wear design.
By prioritising longevity and technical quality, we create garments built to endure seasons of racing — not single campaigns.
The ocean is our arena. Protecting it is part of our responsibility.
